Pink Lemonade Soap

I made this soap a few weeks ago. It is scented with a pink lemonade FO it smells awesome. I sprinkled Bolivian pink salt (free sample from "FromNatureWithLove.com") on top of the bars and attempted to make pink soap. The color did not turn out as I expected, but it never does when I use herbs as colorant. Overall, I am happy with this soap ...the scent is really nice...I just can not stop smelling it. I have had a piece sitting on my desk for the past couple weeks cause i like it so much. :)

Cut Salt Bars and Tutorial

Here are the long awaited pictures of the cut jasmine salt bars. The salts were dyed with FD&C red # 33, which turned the whole bar a pink color.


The recipe:
82.5% Coconut oil
12.5% Avocado oil
5% Castor oil
Medium Size Sea Salt equal to the weight of oils
15% Super Fat
20% water discount

1. Preheated the oven to 170*F.
2. Mix in the salt at soap trace and add any color or fragrance.
3. Either pour the soap into a wooden loaf mold or (better) into 4-5 oz sized individual molds.
4. Put into the oven and turned the oven off.
5. Soap that will need to be sliced should be removed from the oven after 1.5 hours and cut (otherwise they will be too hard to cut and will just crumble). If you make your soap in a divided or individual mold, then you can leave it in the oven overnight..

Jasmine Salt Bar

Well, when I dyed the salts they were a nice shade of purple/lavender. When I added the salts to my soap at trace the turned this very pretty pink color. I am not sure that the color is the best for jasmine scent but it will have to do. Once I poured the soap into the mold I covered it with saran wrap and the wooden lid and put it in the oven for 1 hour. I probably should have left it in there for another 10-30 minutes since it was still still too soft to cut. I had to let it sit for about 30 minutes before I could cut it. It appeared to be in the gel stage when I cut it and I noticed a small crack on the bottom of the log from overheating probably. Maybe next time I will allow my lye to cool a bit more before I mix it with the oils and hope that that will minimize overheating. Anyways, it appears to be turning a darker pink than is seen in the photo below. I actually just looked at a picture of jasmine flowers and while the flower itself is white the base of the flower is almost hot pink. So maybe this color works. ;)

Saponifiers???

Just had a thought...could we call ourselves saponifiers instead of soapmakers? It really sounds so much cooler. :)

Sparkling Cranberry Soap

I made this soap last weekend using a sparkling cranberry fragrance. The color in the swirls is due to cranberry fruit fiber. I also added some red sparkles since the cranberry fiber started turning a brownish red. I really like how the white portion of the soap has a cream and an ivory mix to it. This soap will be for sale in my Etsy store in about 2 weeks.

Easter Basket

My mailman request an easter basket of goodies last weekend. I made up a couple for him to choose from and wanted to post a photo of one. I really like the way it turned out. I hope more people will request similar type baskets in the future. It was really fun to put together. It also helped me to get motivated to wrap lots of soap. Hopefully, I will start making more sales so I will have room to make more products. I just purchased a bunch of rubbermaid containers today and organized my soap studio a bit. I still need to get a lot more containers though. But, the studio looks much better and I have a lot more room on my work table to get creative. I also made a ton of flyers this week that I will be posting around the area and sending to friends to put up. Lucky for me that I live on a college campus filled with very "earthy" people that I imagine would like my soaps.

Cucumber melon soap

Last weekend I made a batch of cucumber melon soap. I made the green swirls by mixing a portion of the soap with spirulina powder. Spirulina is algae that is "farmed" across the world and eaten. It is 60% all-vegetable protein, rich in beta carotene, iron, vitamin B-12 and the rare essential fatty acid, GLA. It offers a striking profile of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrents. It has been shown in numerous scientific studies to have remarkable health benefits.

Just looking around on Etsy and I spotted these pretty soaps. I would really like to get a slab mold to try out some of cool designs like these.
