Treasury

A lovely treasury on Etsy featured my Eucalyptus mint soap. Check out a picture of the treasury. I love the color!

  2. Congratulations ! It looks great ! I just found your blog while searching for a salt soap tutorial (found it on the soap bar) and I think it is so cool that you are a PhD student. I graduated from my PhD in physiology in december 2008 (in Montreal, Canada) and I also have to admit that I find it much more exciting making soaps than doing research right now ! Did you graduate, I couldn't find it in your past posts but I didn't read it all yet. I was wondering, how long do you put your soap in the oven and how long do you let them cure after ? And how long do you let the salt soap cure ?

  3. Mariannick- I will be graduating in May. I am so excited to finally finish! I agree with you-soapmaking is way more fun than research. Regarding the the oven, I put regular soap in for 2hrs at 170F and then turn off the oven and leave the soap in overnight. For salt bars I do the same if I use my mold that has dividers in it to make precut soap. If I use a mold where I will have to cut the soap I leave it in for 2hrs at 170F and then take it out of the oven to cool for maybe 15-30 minutes and then I cut the salt bars. All of the soap can be used right after the oven cook, but I give them a cure of 2 weeks before I will list them for sale. Hope this helps you. Salt bars are great...let me know how yours turn out.

    Good luck with finishing writing your dissertation and doing your defense then ! Or is your thesis already approved ? If so, don't worry the hard part is over :) I can imagine that you must be relieved to finish (I know I was !). Will you be doing a postdoc after ?

    I tried to make salt soap yesterday just after leaving you the message and I figured out it would be kind of like "in the mold hot process" but I am glad to hear that they really are ready immediately because I already tried them this morning ;) I just LOVED it ! I preheated the oven at 170F then turned it off when I put the mold inside like it is explained in your tutorial, would it be better to leave it at 170F then ? Anyway, they were great, I love the silky feeling they leave on the skin.
